Last week the FDA fined KIND Bar, declaring their use of the word “healthy” on packages a violation of labeling regulations. Although the FDA has yet to catch up to the current nutrition recommendations of what's truly healthy, like saturated fat in nuts, it's still important to know what to look for in a packaged product or risk being mislead by marketing claims.
"If you're deciding between a candy bar and a fruit-and-nut bar, and health is top of mind, the best choice seems obvious. But when it comes to companies actually labeling their products "healthy," the Food and Drug Administration is showing it won't pull any punches. In a letter dated March 17 that was released this week, the agency called out the snack food company Kind for violating labeling rules by putting the word "healthy" on the packaging for some of its bars.It turns out the FDA has a very specific definition of "healthy" food and a list of requirements that products must meet to earn the right to put that loaded word on the label. For one, the product has to contain 1 gram or less of saturated fat."

As with any packaged food you cannot believe the marketing claims or even the nutritional label. You have to check the ingredient list. Many people fall for the statements “healthy”, “natural,” no such and such preservatives or additives.
That’s why I believe that jerky is the perfect snack/survival food. If you look at our Grass Fed Jerky Chews ingredient list, you do not need a degree in chemistry to decipher it. Our ingredients are as simple as it gets! For the Original flavor it is: grass-fed beef, salt and vinegar. For Mild and Spicy there are a few more spices added. For the Chipotle Raisin flavor there’s a little bit of California sourced raisin puree added for a tad of sweetness.
Our Grass Fed Jerky Chews are just very simple and satisfying. There is nothing questionable about them. Depending on the flavor, they are suitable for some of the most restrictive diets and are perfect for someone living the Paleo lifestyle.
Wouldn’t you rather have Grass Fed Jerky Chews in your bag for emergency rather than some bar?
